Ted Cruz: Not “Going to Come Like a Servile Puppy Dog”

After not endorsing the sentient Cheeto of Hate that is running for President of the United States last night, Ted Cruz doubled down this morning by saying he’s “not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father”.

I’m getting this weird feeling in my brain.

It feels like… respect.

Respect for Ted Cruz.

…we live in a weird-ass world, you guys.

The New Yorker: Trump’s Boswell Speaks

The New Yorker has a piece on “The Art of The Deal” ghostwriter Tony Schwartz’s feelings on a Donald Trump presidency. It’s only slightly horrifying.

Starting in late 1985, Schwartz spent eighteen months with Trump—camping out in his office, joining him on his helicopter, tagging along at meetings, and spending weekends with him at his Manhattan apartment and his Florida estate. During that period, Schwartz felt, he had got to know him better than almost anyone else outside the Trump family. Until Schwartz posted the tweet, though, he had not spoken publicly about Trump for decades. It had never been his ambition to be a ghostwriter, and he had been glad to move on. But, as he watched a replay of the new candidate holding forth for forty-five minutes, he noticed something strange: over the decades, Trump appeared to have convinced himself that he had written the book. Schwartz recalls thinking, “If he could lie about that on Day One—when it was so easily refuted—he is likely to lie about anything.”

This is fine.

Last Week Tonight on Donald Trump

John Oliver’s main story on “Last Week Tonight” was about America’s Cold Sore Given Human Form, Donald Trump. I’ve been anxiously waiting for this to happen, and it does not disappoint.

America Is Becoming More Liberal

From The Atlantic:

Millennials are not liberal primarily because they are young. They are liberal because their formative political experiences were the Iraq War and the Great Recession, and because they make up the most secular, most racially diverse, least nationalistic generation in American history. And none of that is likely to change.

As someone whose political leanings would best be described as “Bernie Sanders-tastic”, I’m okay with this. It’s also interesting how this will likely affect how the next president will have to govern to the left of whomever their party’s presidential predecessor might be.

When Bush won the presidency in 2000, very few Millennials could vote. In 2016, by contrast, they will constitute roughly one-third of those who turn out. In 2000, African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians constituted 20 percent of voters. In 2016, they will constitute more than 30 percent. Whit Ayres, a political consultant for the Rubio campaign, calculates that even if the 2016 Republican nominee wins 60 percent of the white vote (more than any GOP nominee in the past four decades except Reagan, in 1984, has won), he or she will still need almost 30 percent of the minority vote. Mitt Romney got 17 percent.

Sarah Palin’s Endorsement of Donald Trump for President: The Full Text

Buzzfeed’s Kyle Blaine transcribed the entirety of Sarah Palin’s endorsement speech for Donald Trump:

He is from the private sector, not a politician, can I get a “Hallelujah!” Where, in the private sector, you actually have to balance budgets in order to prioritize, to keep the main thing, the main thing, and he knows the main thing: a president is to keep us safe economically and militarily. He knows the main thing, and he knows how to lead the charge. So troops, hang in there, because help’s on the way because he, better than anyone, isn’t he known for being able to command, fire!

Dammit, Governer Palin, incoherent rambling is my jobgo back to keeping an eye on Russia from your home state and stop trying to steal my thing.
